Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is a long-standing tradition of the Catholic Church and it marks the last day of ordinary time before the start of Lent, a time of fasting and repentance. At Saint Mary School we celebrate Mardi Gras with a prayer service and school-wide feast. This allows students to understand the transition from ordinary time to Lent. Lent is a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter.
This year's Mardi Gras Feast will take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Students can wear green, purple, gold, and jeans on 2/21/2023. We ask parents who can contribute the following items to bring them to the school by Thursday, February 16.
