Teacher Name: Mrs. Fuentes
Position: 2nd Grade Teacher
Teacher Bio:
Welcome! I am Mrs. Fuentes, the 2nd Grade teacher at St Mary School. Second grade is an involved year where students are focused on learning and preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.
It’s exciting for me to be part of each student’s achievements and faith formation. Most importantly to be a support and to see students in this grade morph through their learning to more independent children and apply this independence to their work, ideas, friendships, and relationship with God. It’s always touching for me to inspire accomplishments in each student at any level.
Credentials and Expertise...
A year after serving in the United States Navy, one of my many jobs was teaching adult physical and nutrition classes which I truly enjoyed. At the end of eight years of service in the military, I applied to Calstate Los Angeles with teaching as my focus and earned my Bachelor Degree in Liberal Studies while teaching at Alexandria Elementary School and leading an after school program. Once I moved to the Antelope Valley, and accepted a job at St. Mary School, I joined a catechist formation program where I earned my Catechist Certification. Then, I was offered an opportunity to attend Loyola Mount University where I completed my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. I have been happily working in the education system for twenty-one years. This school year will be my sixteenth year working at St. Mary’s School. I enjoy that every year brings with it new challenges. I feel truly blessed that God has given me a profession I am passionate about.
Personal information…
Mexico is the beautiful country I was born in, but I have lived in the United States since I was five years old. I am the second oldest of one sister and five brothers. I am joyfully married to my high school sweetheart, and I am blessed with an amazing daughter. I am a prior service member of the United States Navy, where I proudly and honorably served for eight years. I lived in Florida, San Diego, and San Clemente Island during my eight years of service. My husband proudly served in the Army as well. Some of my preferred hobbies are reading and learning about my faith, watching historical documentaries, experiencing God’s nature, and spending time and traveling with my family.
St. Mary School, a special place…
When entering St. Mary School grounds, the essence of our community will be felt with the warm pleasant smiles and greetings from those who make our school’s family either the students, parent volunteers, priests, or staff members. Our school prides itself on teaching “as Jesus did” with the freedom for students to express themselves intellectually, artistically, physically and most importantly spiritually as they critically explore God’s world of knowledge and faith at their own pace. Our students are resilient, compassionate, and always keep each other's challenges close to their hearts in prayer. They are A.N.G.E.L.S. All this would not be possible with the support of caring parents, staff, and our principal. St. Mary School is a place of inspiration and faith; I am honored to cultivate the brilliant young minds of this special place.
